About Us
Powell Elementary School is located north of Knoxville at 1711 Spring Street, in Board of Education District 7 and KCS Region 2.
The school's history goes back more than a century to 1874 when it was known as Perkins School. When the current elementary school was built in 1949, the Powell community's population was 2,553. It has since grown to nearly 14,000 people, according to the most recent census data. In 1986, a kindergarten wing, front office complex, gym, media center, and music room were added. In 1995, PES completed a $60,000 playground renovation.
Powell Elementary has 35 classrooms inside the building and 14 portable classrooms.
Powell Elementary’s mission is to provide a safe, nurturing learning environment that holds high expectations for all students to become independent, responsible, life-long learners and productive citizens.
